Just ordered my TEA heads!
Should be shipping tomorrow!
TEA stage 1.5 5.3 heads, unmilled
Comp cam 224/224 .581 lift 114lsa +4
Hardened pushrods 7.35
Cosmetic gasket and GM head bolts.
Should help my daily driver go a bit faster.
Current performance mods are Air lid, FRA, Jet hot long tubes and cats, HP tuners. STB and LCAs.
Now I need some traction. I was thinking about getting sub frame connectors, LCA relocation brackets and a Torque arm. I just spent most of my available $$, but what would you recommend first? Probably Sub frames, I'd guess.

Shorter rods?? I dunno. That's just what they suggested.
Would I be better off with 7.4? What difference will it make?
Also, they just called to say they were out of the cam I wanted.
But they do have a 220/224 .581 lift 114 lsa +2 in stock. I said to go ahead and ship it. Close enough I guess.

Well, I called them back. They're going to send the 7.4 pushrods. In reality, with those heads and cam, either would work. They said I'm right on the border between the two.
Also, they said the heads would be "barely milled" to clean up any imperfections. Like .010 or so.
What will my compression be with those heads and the cosmetic gasket? 10.8 or so? I don't want to run into problems with 93 octane.

220/224 vs. 224/224 I don't think I'll complain about 5 extra hp in the mid range vs. 5 extra hp up top.
If anything, I kinda think the smaller cam would suite me better. It's a daily driver, not a race car. So I wasn't too upset they didn't have the exact cam I requested.
The only thing that worries me a little is the cometic gasket. After reading, it seems best for performance, but tons of people have problems with leaks. I guess I just have to be very careful during install.

You may want to research pushrods a little more. If your heads are truly unmilled and depending on gasket thickness you may want longer than 7.4" pushrods. For example with my setup, I have stock unmilled heads and stock GM gaskets .052" thickness. I run 7.425" pushrods (ideal would be 7.431", but that costs big money for custom length).
Also, milling .010" is quite a bit more than barely. A "clean up" mill is usually .002".
PS, good choice on the heads. I have a set of the same ones, TEA quality is excellent.

I was kinda guessing on the clean up. They called it a "beauty cut." The gaskets are cometic, so they'll most likely be .045. Isn't that what you'd think they'd send? I probably should've specified.
