Default Cylinder Wall Damage?

Please look at these pictures and tell me if my cylinder walls look OK? The hone marks are visible but what about the vertical "scratches"? What could cause this to happen?

I would assume it would come from the rings. What was the wall to piston clearance around the skirts? May want to pull a piston and check the rings.

looks like a little scuffing, but it's hard to tell from just pics how deep the marks are. but, if i were to guess, i'd say you will be ok.

I'm not sure what the wall to piston is.

If I run my hand around the cylinder you can feel where the marks are...

If the car is performing well and you don't have any performance related issues, just run it.

I would say it is ok I have a older SBC that is the same way and it has a lot of piston to wall clearence. I think what causes that is the sides of piston, it also had the same markes on the pistons , the scratches on ours you could catch a nail on but still turns 9k like no tommorrow,

Looks pretty normal for a race engine. Remember when you are at WOT there is a lot of side load on the piston whenever the crank is past TDC.

good post.

I've had less scuffing than that, almost none, on a 50k mile 383 stroker that was BEAT ON, BUT my 408 with 500 miles has some scuffing already. was wondering if it was a problem, guess not.
