Talking NEW PICTURES ADDED LS6 engine in 98 SS

PICTURES ADDED 9/25. My engine swap went well. I have a LS6 crate engine in my 98 SS. It's topped with the FAST 90 mm intake and Nick Williams 90 mm throttle body. The SS exhales through newly re-coated Jet-Hot LT headers. It is amazing how much power the car has and it's new performance. The exhaust sound is deeper and louder and the SS has a great sounding idle.

I need to check my spreadsheet on my expenses (on different pc), but, it was around 11k. In addition to the engine and installation, that includes new sub frame connectors, new a/c compressor, new clutch and pressure plate, resurfaced flywheel, and other misc. stuff.

Wow, sounds nice!

With your intake and exhaust mods, that car is just begging for a cam!

I thought about changing the cam. But then, I figured that the LS6 is a factory "heads and cam" engine and decided not to open it up.

I just recently put a 04 LS6 from a Z06 in my 98z thing is so much more powerful then the older 98ls1 i had. But thing is pretty quick i plan to go to the track before winter. I was lucky enough to find the motor for 3100 with under 4k on it. Happy with the new found power. It really does sound totally different. I add Race style Pacesetter LT's !AIR !EGR and !A/C system. 98SS do u plan to go to the track to see what it runs? if you do keep me posted on what it runs. I also go the same catback exhaust as you. Man the car was so loud with the headers and ORY i had to full block off my Adjustable plate. I like to get a electric one that replaces it.

Good luck with your new engine! I did the same thing to my '01 about 2 years ago b/c my FRA took in water and hydro-locked the LS1 . The only mods I have are in my sig, no headers or gears or anything, just a catback and a stall and I've seen 12.40's in good air. With gears and headers and such I think high 11's are within reason. Good luck and keep us posted.

After some more miles on the engine, I'll take it to a track as I am very interested in what it will do. My SS is really loud also, I have the small plate in. Next, I want to do the dyno thing and see what I'm putting to the ground.

fast01

I think the LS6 crate engine is a great way to go! High 11's (?)...it will be close, I though perhaps mid to low 12's.

ty_ty13

The closet shop is 3 hours away, so I did not go that route. So, I did what I wanted to do - put in a 'vette LS6 - ya can't go wrong with that!

Welcome to the club! That motor will love a cam, trust me. Even a stock crate motor LS6 will be outrageous.

98SS i would recommend going to Eastside Performance they do really great job on tuning 98-02 Fbodies. I plan on taking my car to get tuned soon. also probably in oct. gonna get it dyno'ed. It runs pretty good on the stock tune but with a tune should gain about 15-20 hp. I am hoping to go to etown in nov. for some of the last events of the year.

During the swap, I sent the computer to MTI and Jayson tuned it.

WOW! 11.88! Great time, great rwhp. I read your sig, is the 11.88 on the stock crate or did you put in the cam? I know you must have put on the ASP pullies, does that include the alt pully?

I have the McLeod clutch and steel flywheel, and adj. mc, stired by a B&M ripper w/ their HammerHead T handle, To help me launch, BMR lca's. On race day, I have BFG 275/50R15 drag radials, on CenterLine Warrior 15 x 8.5 rims. To stop me, I have Baer Eradispeed rotors and Hawk HPS brake pads.

No cam all bolt-ons except the fast intake. I would like to try one though.
