Default Do I have a bad head gasket?

A few weeks back my car started to buck and surge. It finally through a code which said the temperature coolent sensor was messed up. Also my temperature guage was going haywire, going up and down. I put the new sensor in three days ago and it seem o.k. till tonight when the temperature guage started f'ing up on me again. The car began to buck and even my rpms jumped on me a little when I wasn't on the gas. I have no codes being thrown. My dad says most likely it's a head gasket. What do you guys think?

Check for oil in your coolant and coolant foam in your oil. Any white smoke coming from the exhaust?

I was referring to the cap where you put oil in. The one that sits on the valve cover. Check the inside of where the cap goes for a type of goo. If some is there, its possible you could have a bad gasket.
