Some experienced Cam help Here
Hey I know these questions have been asked over and over again and I have searched lol, but here is my senario. After doing my LT's and converter I am not really in the mood to do a cam, and LS1 speed has a great deal for around 1300 for cam, springs pushrods, complete install and Tuning.
Here are my cam choices that I am looking at:
224 224 .581 .581 114
224 228 .581 .588 114
231 237 .589 .595 112
Lift: .560/.560 Dur@.050: 224/224 LSA: 112
What I am looking to know is about using these 4 cams as Daily Drivers.
I am pretty much looking between the 224/228 and the 231/237, the two 224's are just other options as well. I would like to go with the 231 but I think it is too big for everyday street, however I would like a nice lopey idle. Would the 224 228 give that with a 114 LSA? Any advice would be much apprieciated. Also my converter is a Yank SS3600.

Agreed, the 224 with the 114 will obviously be the best, and the 224 with the 112 might have a little more lope and bite. LS1 speed I have heard does very good tuning and thats why I think I can maybe even get away with the 231, anyone else?

If your looking for a daily driver and streetability I would stay away from all of those cams, milage is gonna really suck and so is all that noise in your valvetrain, and if you don't like the sound of a sewing machine, then you really do not want to mess with those cams. Also computer tuning is a must,FastChips.com does a great job(Ed Wright). Not trying to talk you into anything but my cam has a nice Idle with slight lobe, and makes plenty of power, with no damn sewing machine noise, yes some valvetrain noise but nothing out of the ordinary.

I have a 225/225 with .590 lift...you'll definately hear the drivetrain noise. For a daily driver, I'd say get the 224/224 - it'll give you more usable power. Do you really want your cam to peak over 6000 rpms? Probably not on the street. You'll be quicker around town with the smaller cam.

Thats a good point as well, I don't really mind the valvetrain noise that much. Im kinda leaning towards either the 224/228 114, or the 224,224 with the 112 for a little more lope. Also tuning isn't and issue, Speed Inc. will be doing it and I have heard very good things about them.

Lope is a function of idle speed. change the cam's standard idle speed 100 rpm and you can vary lope from hard to stealth. the 224/228 has a typical idle of 850 rpm. Reduce it to 750 and the cam will sound big & mean. Raise it to 950 and you'll have to listen carefully to detect it.
Your choice will be fine.
