Default Crane 832 shims

I am going to shim my Crane 832's. Crane doesn't make shims for these springs. I have some Comp shims that will fit. What is everyone using for shimming these springs? Just checking to see if there is a better fitting shim out there, otherwise I will go with the Comps.

There's really no such thing as a "better fitting" shim. They either fit or they don't. As long as the OD is close enough and they lie flat on the head, you're good to go. My Comp shims have literally thousands of miles, several dyno runs, and numerous 1/4 mile runs on them while in use with my Crane 832 valve springs.

Thanks. I see a lot of discussion about shimming these springs, but no specifics on what is used. The ID of these shims is larger than the vavle guide, so wasn't sure if there was a shim out there that fit the guide better. They fit the OD fine, as I checked them against a friends uninstalled spring package this weekend.

Now I need to decide between 0.030 or 0.060 and where that leaves me with regards to coil bind.

Well, as you know, on my particular setup, the .060" shims were recommended, but yours may be different. I've also heard there are those using the .030" shims in other setups.

It may be worthwhile for you to ask Mark what he thinks.

Vettenuts, with coil bind @1.045 on the 832's, you could put a .060 shim under each spring cup. If your springs were installed @ 1.77, now be approx. 1.71. Even with .583 lift, still have .080 till coil bind.
