Default How do you know if its piston slap?

I'm pretty new to these cars, i've owned my ws6 for about 4 months, so I don't really know if it this is a bearing noise or piston slap. I usually hear the knocking after the motor gets hot, it doesn't go away, it doesnt get louder with rpms but the knocking gets faster, I had the car on the lift today and ran it, i can hear it the most in the front of the motor by the crank pulley. What could it be?!?!?

check your oil lovel, mine slaps more if it's a little low on oil.

i haven't gotten around to checking the rods because i think i may have bent one when i overreved (missed 4th) at the track.

"Piston slap" or piston to bore clearance generally goes away or gets significantly quieter as the engine warms up.

If the sound is constant it may be an exhaust leak or bent pushrod as suggested earlier.

I get the same noise especially when it's cold, if I drive the car it's very prominent around 2000-2500rpm then the sound goes away, it's less noticable when warm! Doesn't sound good, but the engine would have destroyed itself a long time ago if it were bearings! I think it's piston slap, I now use Royal Purple and it helped a bit. I posted a thread on a vibration I constantly get around 1500rpm, maybe related!

drive the crap out of it after its warmed up

then later check oil plug for debris, if non found you are fine

dont be scared of piston slap, its healthy

Mild PS is fine, not a problem.. Here is the "sky is falling" official web site.

Well what i notice is that its fairly loud like i can hear the knocking over the exhuast when I first start it up and then within 5 seconds it quiets down to where you can only hear it if the hood is open or from underneath the car and i just changed my oil today, so its full. Piston slap doesn't totally go away its just less noticable/quiter when warm?

is piston slap louder from under the hood or from underneath the car, because like I said when I had it on the lift, it seemed the loudest by the crank pulley
