Start it up, watch the oil pressure, let it warm up to full operating temperature, check all the fluids and then go test her out.

When I did my cam swap I ran it up to temp twice before getting on it much, that is not necessary.

I don't think there is much need for waiting. Just get up to operating speed. Now if you also changed valve springs I would heat cycle them a couple of times.

If you have new springs, you need to run it at idle for about 30min then shut it down, let it sit overnight, then your good to go. confirm with a tuner

You shouldn't need to heat cycle springs. Some do, some believe you should, but they shouldn't need it.

You can heat cycle them if it helps your piece of mind. I did.

"Heat cycling" valve springs was a necessity when I was a young man because, at the time, valve springs were almost universally made from tool steel. With the valve springs we use today, made from silicon steel, heat cycling is absolutely unnecessary.

I ran if a few times for no other reason than to make sure nothing "funny" happened and I was confident all was OK. I also wanted to give the Redline assembly lube time to wash out good and ensure everything was getting properly oiled. But that is just me, overly cautious

[QUOTE=XTrooper] heat cycling is absolutely unnecessary. [QUOTE]

Very true, but I did it anyways just to have peace of mind.

I heat cycled mine three times before taking it to redline. That was BEFORE I heard all this talk about not needing to because of the new steel used in the springs.

start it up
go around block
noting funny happens
turn it loose
newer technology makes it where cam breakin periods and valve spring cycling is not nessecary

Great now I don't feel so bad about letting my friends talk me into doing several massive burnouts after the H/C swap.

left the shop..... wot here i come.

heat cycling springs... my take..... my manley duals have like 20k on them, with no loss in pressure, no cycling here.

if it helps peace of mind, do it... not like it hurts or anything.

All you need to do is listen and check for leaks to make sure your work is ok, heat cycling is not needed. Take a drive get it hot so it circulates and then take it home and open the hood. No leaks? Take it for another drive this time with bad intent see what you've created
