Default ls1 - bad ticking

I hear a really bad ticking coming from my engine that started after a few WOTs. I only have 39K miles on my 99 TA. I have tried to pinpoint where this is coming from by using a screwdriver to try and hear the engine noise. I put it over the valve covers and really didnt hear much. The tick increases as I pull the throttle cable so it's definately internal. Would this be from valve springs or lifters or what? My car has also been hesitating from about 4K and almost to redline under really quick hard shifts (but i think that is the clutch not being able to keep up with the engine power.) The only mods I have are a lid and an exhaust cutout. I've been planning on pulling all my rods out to see if any are bent and replace the ones that are. Is there anything I should check when I do?

I had a loud ticking that was a failed lifter. I have another one as or right now. This time I bought some comp lifters cause I am tired of the POS stock ones failing on me.

I'd guess possibly a lifter.. check your pushrods too.

i have no check engine lights on or anything to indicate what the problem may be. i want to avoid, asmuch as possible, the dealer. something odd also has been happening. everytime in the morning, during a cold start, all of my guages go to the max and slowly reach back to default. the speedometer will go to 120 and slowly come back. the mileage trip also resets. this is pissing me off

yeah pull the valve covers and see if you can find anything. The guages thing is pretty odd, sounds like something screwy electrical wise, possibly the vcm/ecm.Check your injectors for the ticking also.

I have a 97 Vette with 56,000 miles, runs good, no codes or anything, and I also hear a ticking noise. I can't narrow it down. It's not overly loud, in fact, I can't hear it outside, but when I pull it into the garage and let it idle, I can hear it. I will be doing H/C soon anyways and will find out then.

replace battery and problem solved or maybe just a bad connection check the terminals for leakage or corrosion.

This is most definatly a pushrod, the nut on the rocker is loose

This could allso be a torn lifter

most likely an exhuast leak coming from the headers/exhuast manifold(s). If your doing H/C soon then i wouldnt worry about it.

Didn't think about that. Maybe I need to re-torque the headers. Thanks.
