Default RPM redline for my combo.

Mods are in sig and my goal is to run the engine as high as safe to use the powerband available. I also don't want to run into redline issues on the quartermile with my 4.10's and a 6 speed. Thanks everyone.

I would not go over 6600 on a stock short block and would normally say 6500 or less. However, some people do rev them higher

if you have a predetermined rpm you WON'T go over, dyno your car and shift at that rpm if you're still making power. otherwise, shift ~200 rpm after peak.

What if my car climbs to 6800 RPM without the HP flattening out?

6800 is about all I'd bring a stock shortblock to...regardless of what the cam is making HP at. If you dynoed the car, look where the HP/TRQ curves cross. The RPM shift point should be set to drop you into that range in the next gear. My curves cross at 5200. I've ran the car up to 6800 once... but have since realized anything over 6400 (with my combo) won't make extra MPH or lower ET's....just beat the hell out of the valvetrain.

All dyno graphs cross at 5250, that's just how the formula works. The CheaTR will climb up there, but it'll peak around 6400, so carry it through to 6800. Put ARP rod bolts in there if you are worried, because that's the weak link. The rods are actually pretty good. Also, you want to cross the traps as close to peak RPM as you can. With a 26" tire, you'd cross at 120mph in 4th with a 4.10 at 6400rpm. Your setup should be able to do that under the right conditions. 6800rpm gives you 128mph, which your setup will not do unless you have a gutted car.

yeah put some katech or arp rod bolts in and run it to 6500.When you really need that extra rpm and speed rev it to 6800,but only when you really need it,(like if you race a guy in a porshe and he has his hot girlfriend in the passenger seat). And if you blow it then build it nasty with fully forged and balanced internals and stroke it while your at it.(cuz the porshe guys girlfriend will be stroking yours)

I have a 221/221 B-1 cam and have my shift light at 6200.I have 4.10's and cross with the light on at 6300.My peak is about 6200 and running it higher dosent really affect ET.Alot of guys like to RPM high because of all the huge cam craziness.I build for torque to shift at a sane RPM,ET good and long shortblock life plus great street performance!
