Default misfire under load/bad gas mileage?

Lately my car has been misfiring at low rpm (say between 1200 and 2000 rpm in a high gear). Say I'm cruising at 45 and want to speed up to 50 or so, if i put the pedal down it will backfire every couple seconds bad enough you can watch the shifter kick to the right and the car bucks. Also, if its out of gear and I rev the engine, I notice that it misfires twice at 4000 rpm, like just skips twice as it continues up to redline fine. also in low gear under full throttle it performs just fine as I shift to other gears, although it does backfire some at decel. It isnt throwing any codes. Sorry for the bad explanation, I'm just trying to get all my bases covered. My gas mileage has also taken a noticeable 5+ mpg drop. Any ideas guys? Thanks!

Edit: its an 80,000 mile 2000 m6 z28, bone stock to the paper filter and as far as I can tell, never raced.

bad plugs or plugs wires, O2's, clogged/bad injector, coil?

All the possibilities i can think of... i had the same problem and it was a bad NGK plug..

good luck

The ses light isnt on and no codes are stored. If I pull the o2s, how will I be able to tell if they are worn out? It does have 80k miles..

I would go down thru the list of things......

Visually check plugs and replace if needed. Factory plugs?
Using an ohmeter check voltage of plug wires. My stockers checked at .725 ohms resistence

Original fuel filter? Visually checking the 02 sensors really won't tell you anything that I could think of. Little gremlins like this are always a PIA to work with.
