how can i tell if i have a bad valve seal?

usually it smokes at startup

i found a plug , number 6, thats got oily gunk on it and i saw sum oil resado on the spark plug wire. looks like oil is getting in there sum how. how would i tell if its a bad valve seal or valve guide? I pulled the dual springs off but i cant tell by looking at the valve stem area or am i missing something

Another way is to perform a leakdown test. If you plug in the compression hose into the spark plug hole and then fill it up with about 100psi of air, if you remove your valve cover, you will hear the air seeping out from the valve seals.

Had the same problem with cylinder #2. Needed to replace the dual springs anyway, so I swapped out the valve seals. Got 600 miles this weekend, plus 4 dyno pulls and the plugs look great.

Get the stockers from GM or get the viton's from Patriot.

I bought the stockers at O'Rileys. or however you spell it. They had them in stock.

To swap them out, you need to pull the spring and just grab it with some pliers and pull it off. Then put the new one on, and use a socket to go over the valve stem and tap it on with a small hammer.
