Default pretty nasty tick....

ok, so i got my RX7 (ls1 powered head/cam/ls6 oil pump) together and drove it for a week with no problems. Went out and was goofing off and car started ticking, BADLY, and oil pressure was lower than it was. assumed spun bearing. Double checked valvetrain, all is good, so I pulled hte motor. stripped it down.. NOTHING wrong. The cam bearing have some wear, but everything looks ok. the only thing I could spot at all is there was a nick missing in the o-ring that seals the pickup tube to the oil pump.

Could this "fail" a week after the install?

I am just going to toss some cam bearings at it, put it back together and cross my fingers!!!

Default

The oil pump o-ring was probablly pinched during installation. It's an all to common problem and will deffinatlly cause the symptoms you are describing. It allows the oil to airate a bit which ends up causing more or less ticking depending on how bad the pinch is. Deffinatlly swap out the o-ring.
