Default Burning oil smell from car

I have a 98 Z28 and have been going to the track and running my car hard lately. I have hit the revlimiter 3 times since july and have noticed a slight oil burning smell when I pull up to a stop light or sign. My car still runs hard and strong but I am worried that I might have done some damage to the rings. I have not yet done a compression check because i dont want to take out the plugs...... and ideas ?

have you taken a look under your car lately? you might have a bad front or real main seal and oil could be leaking on your exhaust....if not what about valve stem seals? i dont think you could smell it burning oil but it still could be burning it. Just my .02

you will smell it on slow down because when you let off the gas, crank case pressure builds up, and you burn some oil. every ls1 i have seen does this, some worse than others.

I would not run it hard with stock internals unless you want to spend $ for a rebuild.

lets see......hitting rev limiter and running it hard= burning oil...it happens....like 98A4LS1 said don't run it too hard with it still being stock. Take it somewhat easy on it until you have the money to build it up....then you can give it hell!

I had a oil burning smell also when I was sitting at a stop light. Turns out I was seeping a little oil from the valve cover and it was getting on the exhaust. Hardly noticeable by sight looking in the engine compartment. Noticed a touch of oil on the front of the head. Changed the valve cover gasket and no leak and no smell. If your car is actually "burning" the oil through combustion, you wouldn't normally smell it unless it's really really bad.
