Ls1 Vs Ls6 Bottom End
ok i know their many top end differences in ls1 motors vs the ls6 but what about bottom end? Is it basically the same pistons, crank, block, rods, berrings? if not what is different? also lets say whats the difference between a 2002 ls1 and 2004 ls6 if that matters...

Knock sensors relocated, I think, too, plus slightly different cast to improve oil flow and cooling. There're several past posts and on-line articles about the block differences if you search a little. (LS1 vs LS6 Block Strength was one topic...)
What I'm not sure about are the connecting rods...

That explains most of the block differences. 01 cams/springs were different though than later LS6's.

For either block at 7 grand I think you're into after-market connecting rods and bolts plus heavy duty dual springs and at least. It will depend on the cam's lobes/ramp rate. You may have to go with new lifters, too. Limit it to rpm to 6800, and you can get away with less bottom build up and put your money into go-faster parts.
