Default Cam Install Timing chain twisted

Just installed my new cam, with a rollmaster double link timing chain and new 918 springs. Everything went together just fine the motor even turned over real smooth while turning the crank bolt. The problem is when I started it up of course the idle wasnt set for the bigger cam and the computer was trying to learn its new settings. As soon as i got to the front of the car it was making a horrible noise, Ive heard of people having a sewing machine noise but this would be like a pissed off one. Well after getting the water pump and front over off the noise was coming from the timing chain it looks like there is a slight twist in some of the links, I do not remember seening it in there before nor was I looking for it so I dont know if it was there or not. Question is if it was not there what could have caused it to bend or twist like that? There isnt any kind of metal in the oil and the over all running was alright except for that noise.

Nothing I can think of really would do that sort of thing. Perhaps it was a manufacturing defect in the chain before you put it on. Was the chain tight down on the cam and crank sprokets?

I guess if it was quite sitting on them all the way you could get some damage on the chain... I would think it'd be pretty darn visible that it wasn't on all the way before you buttoned it all back up again though.

I didnt notice anything wrong with the chain I was the one that worked oil into it real good before putting it on the sprokets. As far as play in the chain there was about 1/4 inch maybe on the left and right side of the chain.

Double rollers are overkill IMHO, I'd get a new single set and be done with it.

You would be able to tell if it was loose. A Double Roller is tight as all get out in most cases as compared to a single. Did you do the oil pump and the shim kit as well?

I reused the stock oil pump it has about 37000 miles on it and we didnt see a problem with it. And yes we installed the shims that came with the timing chain that goes behind the oil pump bolts

Ditto to orangeapeel, those DR's are tight as a MF when they go on. There shouldn't be any twists in them either.
