Default Just noticed some marks on my pistons

I was cleaning up my block last night and notice some marks that look like my valves have hit my pistons. The actual piston isn't scarred but there are marks into the carbon (my engine has 75K miles). Is this something I should worry about? My cam shouldn't have anywhere near enough lift to cause valves hitting pistons right .581? Any ideas?

improper pushrods might still cause them to hit. put some clay or something in there and bolt the heads back on, spin it around, see what it does

I'm just using Trick Flow Chromoly pushrods that are stock length 7.400. The guy I talked to at Patriot said those should work fine.

are you the original owner?

I had that on my 99 also but the heads had also been replaced, the previous owner missed a shift and the valves kissed the pistons. the valve train normaly goes out the window when this happens.

as far as the pistons just make sure that there are no sharp edges to heat up and cause knock.

I'm not the original owner but the car was stock when I bought it other than the subframes and catback. I'm putting on my Patriot heads tonight and I want to make sure everythings cool before I put it all back together.

if the pistons are not broken then you are good to go, just make sure that you do not have sharp edges to cause knock, like i said mine had this on 6 pistons, I just smothed them out and put it back togeather. it is now doing great with a maggie and 516rwhp/ 510rwtq.

Think of it this way lots of OEM pistons are fly cut to run large cams with out issues.

good luck

Ps when smothing the pistons run them all the way up in the bore and vacume up as you go, you do not want to contaminate the cylinders.

i had a knock in mine
pulled motor last sat and tore down sunday
it seems previous owner dropped a valve in #8, tons of gashes and dents on piston, even along the edge
plus i had double rod bearings on number 6, and 3 badly scored main bearings
it looks like as good of excuse as any for a stroker kit
