I set preload with shims and I have just bolted them down. Both ways have worked. Maybe I'm lucky but I have seen no ill effects with these lifters.

i just bolted them on and torqued them to spec (which i believe is 22ft/lbs). no problems here...

motor makes 500h.p. and similar torque and has seen 7,000rpm a few times. no noise, no problems. im using patriot heads.

How come Vinci/Crane rollers suggest 0.060 -0.100"? Is this too much preload or just a function of these particular rockers?

vinci/crane rockers rely on stock or most aftermarket lifters. comp R are he only one's i have read that only want .004"-.006" preload. so, if you have comp R lifters with vinci/crane rockers, you'd use the preload for comp R lifters.

.008-.010 cold or about 1/5 of a turn...use adjustable rockers only. Call the Comp tech line.

That lifter was made for cams above .600 lifts where the tight preloads are used.
They also have be proven to accept more preload with smaller lift cams.

Just call them and find out what is correct for your exact combo.
