Default Heads worth how much power?

I am putting down 381 rwhp with a Comp 224/.581/112 cam, long tubes, and a cutout. I have not done or plan to do the ported throttle body or pulleys. So how much power would I gain with a good set of heads? I've seen some people not pick up much. Plus, I wonder how much of the power is due to bumping the compression ratio up. I live in hot Arizona with 91 octane gas, so I would not want to bump up the compression. I still get some pinging at around 5000 rpm on hot days when I get on it. So how much would I pick up with a good set of heads with stock head gaskets and stock chamber volume (66 cc's)? Plus what heads would you suggest?

Thanks,
Glenn

figure 35 RWHP with a quality set of heads.
More important is the TQ numbers you'll get from quality heads.

a good set of ls6 heads would be fine for your set up. just call around to different places and they can help you out more with exactly what to get and not to get with your heads.

OK, so of the 35 hp, how much is due to bumping the compression ratio. Most people who do heads also bump the CR up.

I'm a newbie when it comes to heads. Why the LS6 style and not the 5.3's?

heads are where its at...get a set of AFR 205s and you will have less detonation and pick up at least 35rwhp..

Buy junk heads...and you get what you pay for...spend the extra coin if you got it.

He doesnt want more compression due to the 91 octane so thats why not the 5.3 heads. They raise compression. As far as AFR's if you can afford them then they are a great heads to buy, but calling other heads junk because they dont cost as much is just plain stupid and inacurate. I picked up a considerable amount, but I went with the 5.3's. I went from 375/375 to 440/420 but I also had it dyno tuned at the same time. I'm guessing I was leaving 15-20 on the table with the "canned" tune I had from my hand held tuner. I had it tuned on a mustang dyno and the number were 404/385, using a 8-10 percent conversion you get the 440. Its not totaly accurate but most people dont seem to understand the difference between the two dyno's and why therer is a conversion factor involved. Talk to a few of the vendors. TSP, TEA and AFR and tell them what your looking for. Its the best way in "this case" as you'll get mostly do what I did opinions this way. I bought my heads from Texas Speed they gave me a good deal on everything involved to do the swap as well as lifters. Others werent so willing to barter. I went with the best deal and am very happy with my results.
