Question 425 Horse at Flywheel

Hi guy's. I am new here and would like your input, I need to have 425 horses at the crank and around 361 @ the wheels so can I run in our Super-Pro program.
Would these numbers be hard to achieve, my car is a street - strip car and is driven daily. I would like to use some kind of iron head, due to their abundant availability. Also will be going fuel injected.
This is going to be a budget build. What iron heads should I use and how many cubes should I be looking at... would a 355 be able to reach these numbers. Must be pump gas friendly. Comp. ratio not to high, 9-9.5 to 1. P.S. I did a search on budget builds on the forum but came up with nothing.
Thanks in advance, Dave...

If your talking about any LSX engine almost any decent size cam, LS6 intake, Long tubes, exhaust and a few minor bolt on's and you will be there no problem. I have seen people get around 360 rwhp with just bolt on's. The cam will definately raise the whole power curve a bunch. One good question would be where (what RPM range) you want the power. That will help narrow down what cam you want. You can get 361 rwhp on budjet with an LS1 without any problems. You definatley dont need to go with a 355 or even remove the heads to get 360 rwhp out of any LSx motor. What exactly is the Super-Pro program? Do a search and/or look at the Dyno section you'll get a lot of info about dyno #'s and what it will take to get there. Good Luck.

ha 98Blubrd you beat me to it

search button is your friend. Just look around for threads asking similar questions, or even check out the dyno section and look for someone making the #s you want and look at their setup.

You can go almost any sort of route with this. But you havent helped all of us out one bit by not stating your car, year, money goals, and everything else.

Nobody really builds a 355 LS1. You dont need more cubes to make 425hp at the flywheel. if youve got a 01-02 then expect 310-315rwhp stock. From there just go with bolt-ons:
-Full exhaust (kooks i think are best headers for power/pacesetter for budget)
-FTRA (fast toys ram air)
-Lid
-Port throttle body/smooth bellows
-add a small cam if you want to seal the deal.

Expect to spend about $1500-$2500 (depending on the cam) and youll make a solid 365-425rwhp (again depending on cam). if you have a 98-2000 then add an LS6 intake.

dont hesite to report post in that section, we are trying diligently to keep it hardcore tech and dont want it taited with the everyday stuff that goes on in here (internal).

Dynoed at 373 with mods in sig. Cam is small (221/.558/112lsa) and a safe tune. Do you have A4 or M6?

This guy seems to be talking about a traditional SBC. The 355 he speaks of is a .030 over 350 motor. The iron heads that would work good would be the vortec L31 heads off a '96-98 Chevy truck. To hit 360 at the wheels, I think is gonna be a lot harder with the old style small block mainly because of the head design.

with an old SBC it you can get 360rwhp but its gonna take some work to do. vortec's are really good for lift under .500 is where they really shine well and flow so well. you can make a 400hp at the flywheel easily with vortec's and a well chosen cam so i think that it could be done. a good intake and headers are a must though also. i am asumming that this is for a 55-99 small block chevy and not an LS1. so i suppose its still in the wrong forum
