Default Has anyone seen this before (cracked ringland)

Upon disassembly of my motor, I found a cracked ringland on #7

it was cracked in 2 places between the 1st and 2nd rings without any visible damage to the crown. Also found a small crack under the 2nd ring. No other pistons showed any damage.

Can detonation crack between ringlands and NOT damage the piston crown? Definately had severe blowby in #7

Did the detonation close the top ringland? Stock pistons?

yes stock pistons but 100% N/A

the area above the 1st ring shows no damage. both cracks were between the rings and a small crack under the 2nd ring

I know what caused it

93 octane and -2000' DA with over 11.5:1 compression don't work out so hot

I just find it fascinating that the crown of the piston above the 1st ring didn't get hurt

Maybe the detonation hurt the bearings too.

I've seen it on an LT1 before.. It was wild, the ring land darned near became another ring itself

quite possible. Not sure when they turned...but they don't look *that* bad, so I'm assuming it was relatively recent. Crank looked ok but I'm putting in a new crank as a precaution. Mains all looked great.

*disregard the last edited thing in your post...I accidently hit edit instead of quote *
