Default Cleaning heads

I am currently reuilding an engine and doing the usual seals and gaskets. Questions is how do I clean the crbon buildup in the combustion chamber and ports? I am disassembling the head to do the valve seals, so I can soak the head in something to clean it up. Soak it in what? I went looking for an automotive solvent, but couldn't find anything at the parts store. Any suggetions?

scotch brite pads, mineral spirits or wd40, and a strong solvent like MEK. Don't forget rubber gloves and a hard brisle tooth brush helps too

Where do I get the strong solvent from? Will soaking in mineral spirits alone work?
