Default Bolt reuse

Which bolts can I reuse and which ones do I need to replace when rebuilding?

my understanding is that the rod bolts and the head bolts cannot be reused, what about the main bolts?

any bolts that require being stretched should never be reused

yeah my tuner told me that if you are gonna be doing internal work then you should switch to ARP bolts for the engine, there is a sponsor that sells the whole kit somewhere. the 98s dont have the stronger bolts thats why you should switch if you do alot of performance mods.

The main bolts can be re-used except for the outside bolts (not sure why)
The 5 small headbolts on the top side can be re-used, but I would recommend ARP's for all. Buying the stock replacements twice pays for the ARP's and it is much better than tourqing them with the damn angle meeter!
The rod bolts are a DEFINATE ARP must - will add a lot of strength and let you sping the motor higher on the stock rods.
This is all by the GM service manual... and my experiences - if that counts for anything.

whats the angle meter, thats one thing im worried about, i heard that torquing the bolts down is diffrent than a Gen 1

LOL... Get ready. They suck in my oppinion

Tourque-to-Yeild bolts require an initial TQ spec for the first pass, a TQ to angle for the second pass, and a TQ to angle for the final pass.

I just did the mains yesterday... if memory serves my right, it was like 28ft/lbs, 80*, 53*. There is a tool that goes between your ratchet, braker bar (it takes some force for the final pass) that shows you how many degrees the bolt head has turned.

The tools are somewhat awkward and never work 100% for me. Might just be my dumbass, but I've used several brands including Snap-On and I really hate using them.
