Default sewing machine noise?

Just wondering if this the same sound that people talk about after getting Long Tube headers installed?! Mine has the ticking sound after Pacesetters installed(and I do have restrictor plates put in if that matters). Just want some info on this. Thanks

I had a slight sewing machine noise after headers. It got a lot louder after the cam though.

Depending on how loud the tick is, it could also be an exhaust leak.

sounds like an exaust leak. Double check the headder bolts are torqued to spec and that none of your flanges are leaking. FYI seafoam makes it real easy to track down an exhaust leak

you will notice more noise after a header install - remember...those heavy, thick clunky manifolds you pulled off deadened the sound more

yeah true. I had my exhaust guy check for leaks and he said there wasnt any. I also had the dealership clean the car up and tighten header bolts if needed. So maybe its just loud ticking valvetrain noise.

Also how would the seafoam track it down?

Sea Foam, sent through the intake manifold via the brake booster line, will produce a big smoke show in your exhaust as it burns all the crap outta your engine. If you have any exhaust leaks, you'll see smoke coming from there too.

Go to your local auto parts store, and ask them if they have any Sea Foam. It comes in a plain looking bottle, and has about a million uses listed on it.

Follow the directions on the bottle. Your brake booster line is the easiest way to get it in the intake.

I have a ticking noise that might sound the same. I have a sound clip that I created of it, but I do not know where to post it. Can someone tell me where I can post it? I want to see if this is the same noise some of you have.

ehhhh, i hope not, i know my ****, and i think it is a lifter problem...... anyone agree with me, these ls1's will "recalibrate" themselves sometimes(explains why it goes away after a few minutes).. anyways when you pop the hood it is clearly coming from the head, advice????

Recalibrate? Nope. Ticking could be a lot of things, but if it goes away after warming up that could be an indication of piston slap which is plenty common in a stock LS1.

Piston slap isn't a ticking sound...its a knocking sound.

I read somewhere on here that you could use slightly shorter pushrods to reduce some preload on the lifters and make it a little bit less like a sewing machine. Is that correct?
