Default Head reccommendation for ASA cam

I have already decided on the ASA cam and will probably be picking up a set of heads in a month or so. I was originally going to go with the ASA/LPE heads or the Patriot Stage II LS6 heads. Lift is only .525. Even if I go with 1.8 rockers that is still only .550ish.

What other heads should I consider? Price is a concern.

Livernois or Patriot 243 (true ls6 cnc'd) castings on sale right now!
Great match for the ASA.

Or TEA 1.5's 5.3's

Head selection for the ASA is also of great interest to me, as that is my cam of choice for my next setup.

given .525 lift, max lift numbers aren't so important.

These are the links to the threads:

Livernois

Patriot

TEA 5.3's outperform their own 5.7's in midlift numbers (and still outperform them up top). They cost $1575 for Stage 1.5. Stage 1.5 5.7's aren't far behind at all and they cost $1450. To save some money, you can also use their entry level Stage 1 5.7's ($1387).

Further investigation shows TEA Stage 1 5.7's putting up great numbers until .550

.100 73
.200 144
.300 209
.400 252
.500 283.4
.550 291.1
.600 294.2

These heads would make a great ASA match, along with the LS6 CNC's posted above..

I think the ASA/LPE heads would be a good match for a .525 lift cam. They have stock size, lightweight valves and flow over 290cfm at .500. Seen some good results on this board with that combo, you'll have good low end power compared to the average h/c setup, too.

I have heard that the ASA cam and LPE/ASA heads were designed around each other. I should be able to pick up a used set pretty cheap as long as I am patient.

Can you guys give me a link to the LPE/ASA heads? I was on the LPE site and didn't see anything about them.

Those are your typical GMPP CNC LS6 heads. Thses guys keep referring to "ASA" LS6 Heads. Is their an ASA race spec head that I'm not aware of?

Besides, who would pay $900 per head for the GMPP heads when you can get 2 ported 243 castings (same head) for the price of 1 from Livernois or Patriot now?
Those don't come with sodium filled valves, but so what? $1000 difference is huge.

I think those are the "ASA" heads he is talking about. They are CNC'd by Lingenfelter. Not everyone wants/needs a 2.02 valve, especially with .525 lift cam. Don't know anything about Livernois, but I would take a real LS6 casting ported by Lingenfelter over a Patriot "LS6 style" style anyday for a few hundred more. But he did say price is a concern, so these may be out of his range.

I'm not talking about ls6 stlye heads.
Patriot and Livernois are selling real LS6 castings now for rock bottom pricing (about 900-1300 dollars, CNC'd, assembled).

Default 5.3

5.3 heads ported with 2.02 and 1.57 valves make great power at a great price
