Default polishing combustion chambers?

What are the benefits of polishing the combustion chambers besides looks? When I get my heads done by patriot, I'd like for the chambers to be polished. Doesn't it help with carbon build-up and surely it helps a little with the flow?

I believe it does help with carbon build up. The rough texture is easier for carbon to cling to. It might help flow a little bit but possibly at the expense of compression since you have to take material away to get the surface smooth.

Quite often, more is to be gained by paying attention to the chamber than to other "high profile" things like port matching. If you have the opportunity to do it / or have it done - go ahead. It helps to reduce turbulence, avoid hot spots and slightly slows the build up of carbon.

Heres a good thread where this gets discussed. Sounds like it's right up your alley.
