Default biggest cam for D.D. and 3.42 gears

I wanted a pretty big cam for my daily driver, and planned on something like a 228-236 cam on 112LSA I had even pondered the GM ASA cam, since I would have 4.10s to compliment the big numbers, but instead I plan on changing the gears back to 3.42 maybe 3.73 depending on if the installer can guarantee dead silence. My current 4.10s aren't to loud, but I like the sound of stock, and adding even more power makes me feel like they will be more prone to breaking. So now I 'm trying to figure out what will work well with these lower(numerically) gears. I want nothing less than a 224/224 I drove a daily 226/336 114LSA untuned daily, but also had 4.10s so it wasn't bad at all, and that was in my LT1 which had more low end torque. I would like to throw some ported heads in the car as well-looking for 400-430 rwhp (with heads). I don't want alot of hassle launching the car since I'm in lots of traffic at times. Also would a split duration cam benifit me more or less

I daily drive my Thunder Racing TRak cam through 4 school zones every day. I've got 3.42 gears and still get 30 mpgs (when the a/c's off) on the highway. Tuning is the key. I'm using the best 2 tuners in the business: Geoff at Thuner Racing and me, LOL. Truthfully, the right tuning can make even a T-Rex possible to drive with 3.42 gears.

Cam specs in my signature.

I just tuned a friends GTO (read heavy) with an 230ish cam with 110LSA.
Starts good, idles good, very streetable. Its all in the tune baby! Just a little bit of surge to work out, but ill get 'her done. When you cruising along it feels just like stock, seriously. Until you romp on it.

F13 has made 400whp on stock headed cars many times and so has simular sized cams. Like everyone else....tune it well and it will drive well.

All of the above is true...

But, I am going out on a limb here and suggest that "YOU" are the most important component in how big of a cam can still be a DD. You are driving it. I am older and prefer a smaller cam and higher quality heads for my DD. That being said the 2nd most important component is the tune. My current cam is getting into what I consider BIG but the tune is so damn tight I have no issues driving it around town (diaper and milk run, pick-up laundry). You did say DD, I would go with the best heads you could get and a not so wild cam, with every bolt-on in the book…
