Default 5.3 cam and engine opinions- suggestions needed

I have a 2001 5.3 silverado engine that i am putting in a small 1950 chevy truck and I am keeping the engine fuel injected. I modified the stock wiring to make it stand alone and removed all emmission and transmission controls. I want to change the stock cam out for a more aggressive one that has a more lopey idle. I plan on putting headers on the engine and definately a computer retune and edit for my wiring mods. I have a friend who is offering me a new ls1 stock cam but i dont know if that cam can produce the full hp potential out of this engine. Also i am going to change out the springs out to ls6 ones for more lift, but do i need to change the lifters too-they are the original ones and have 59k on then. Thanks to everyone for suggestions and any other suggested modifications to this motor would be appreciated but want to keep it affordable.
