Default oil pump relief shim

Has anybody shimmed their oil pump relief valve to increase the line pressure?

Yes, and I kind of wish I hadn't, or maybe gone with a smaller shim. You only need a washer-thin shim.

I have 35lbs at idle, fully hot, up to 65lbs at peak RPM's. I get 45lbs when cold, 70lbs+ at higher RPMS. The best thing you can do is disassemble the pump, remove the check valve and clean it all out. Unbelievable how much crap I found in there.

I had a new race engine that did not have good oil pressure, shimmed a LS6 pump .145". Then it had 45 at idle and 65 WOT. That's a lot of shim. Most people shim .090 or .125 max.
