Default Degreeing Cam Help

I have a 6.0L block, Stage II LS6 CNC Heads milled .012, TR 230/236 cam which specs at 231.5/237.5 .594 .604. I want to degree cam, then check for Piston to Valve clearance, but was told to use Solid lifters instead of Hydraulic. Where can I get 2 Solid lifters? Will I have to flycut pistons?

I noticed on Texas Speed & Performance's website that they carry Comp solid lifters. I don't know if you can just by 2 though.

Hydraulic lifters may compress when you are rotating the engine, so you may not see the real numbers for checking cam timing. Find a solid lifter, get the right pushrod or an adjustable lifter. Check it out. Check the piston to valve clearance with this setup.

Will solid roller lifters for LT1 work? Summit sells ones for a 350 and LT1 by the pair, but have yet to find any for LS1 by the pair.

I made 2 from some old lifters. Take some apart and remove the little flat discs. Remove the springs and stack the discs (don't remember how many) under the cup until it's tight under the retainer clip. Works great and you will need the solids for checking rocker arm geometry also.

Forget that. Buy 2 check springs and put them in place on the head. There isn't enough pressure to compress the lifter, thus giving you solid type readings.

That would work, but I just got my heads reworked with all new valves/springs etc.

You should be able to find some springs at most any hardware store. 1"-1.25" diameter, bout 2.5 inches long or so. You can cut a longer one to fit.

You will only need to place the check springs on one exhaust and one intake to degree-in the cam, unless you don't think all the cam lobes were cut properly...
