Default power and streetability

Hi, I dont have an ls1 just yet but im workin on it. I have a grand national with 500-600 horsepower but it is very streetable. i want to get an ls1 trans am for the handeling ability but also want lots of power. i know that i will do full bolt ons, heads, cam, rear end, clutch, etc. my questions is, how big on everything can i go with out killing my gas milage and streetability. i dont mind a big lopey cam (love the sound actually). but i know i dont wanna go too big. this will be my daily driver except for winter. i want it a little on the radical side but not too radical. it will mostly be street driven with maybe twice a year to the dragstrip and once or twice a year to the road coarse. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Jesse

AFR 205/ 224 duration cam combos are very driveable, and with proper bolt-ons, check in at the 420-460rwhp range.
There are plenty of head/ cam combos out there that can take you up to 450-460rwhp without losing drivability. Drivability is all in cam selection, gear, and a good TUNE.
Generally,
cam/stock heads; 360-430rwhp (depending on cam -see list below-)
heads/cam; 400-450rwhp
max effort heads/cam, streetable; 450-480 (sometimes 500)rwhp.
All above numbers reduce substantially on an A4 (auto tranny).

Anymore than that, seek larger displacement (402/408 shortblock swaps are popular), forced induction, or nitrous.

Cam size (subjectively) on stock displacement, durationwise,
200-220 Small
220-230 Medium
230-240 Large
240 XL

The trick over the past few years has been to get the L and XL cams to provide drivability (liveable idle manners, low end tq, etc). Cam design and tuning is allowing it to happen.
