Quality titanium will not be magnetic. If it is, it's not Ti or its some cheap alloy.

I purchased Comp Cam’s 772-16 titanium retainers last Friday. I have the unopened package right here and just tested them with a magnet. They are absolutely positively non-magnetic.

I have read both your posts, sorry to say I think you got totally screwed. I would be very suspicous of these parts and not install them for fear of having bigger problems down the road.

Try and get your money back. Did you use a credit card and paypal? If so contact the credit card company and see if they can help.

how did you find out that they were magnetic?
Well after I realized the springs were not what they were suposed to be I became more suspicious and put a magnet on one of the retainers and it stuck. I was giving the benefit of doubt even after I found them to be magnetic hence this post. Just wanted to be concrete certain before I make any harsh moves towards the seller. Funny thing too is the cam has absolutely no Thunder Racing markings of any kind on it. I was gonna have it cam doctored to be sure but I've been clearly screwed on the springs and retainers so I bet the cam is some other bullshit too. Yes I paid with paypal and yes I'm gonna contact the seller. Thanks for the help guys.

BTW sorry bout the double post not sure what happened there. One too many beers drowning my sorrows last night perhaps.

The cam turned out to indeed be a TR224 so I worked out a deal with the seller and got some dough back for the springs and retainers which are indeed not titanium and who knows what the springs are but they certainly are not 918 blue stripes as originally discussed. The story goes that the seller bought the car with these parts already installed and sold them as what he "thought" they were and had not verified for himself so its an unfortunate situation for both of us.

In fairness to him though he stuck by his word and made a fair compromise with me and returned some dough and for that he has earned my respect. **** happens sometimes and we made as good of it as best we could and thats what matters to me.

As my pops says..."Somedays your the bug... somedays your the windshield"

Thanks again for all the help guys.

Reminds me of a funny story. About 2 years ago I was looking at a 70 El Camino for my bro. The seller was telling how it had a 383 stroker with aluminum heads. We were standing in my driveway with the hood up and they sure looked like painted iron heads to me...I walked over to my work bench and picked up a mag base and stuck it to the head with a big thunk! The guy was so stupid he didn't even realize what I had done and what it meant that the magnet stuck to the heads!

Well the frame and body were straight as an arrow on this car so we really wanted it, but it was painful dealing with someone that is clueless.
