Default F11 Cam, Valve spring seat question- picture

I have a Futral F11 cam. This is one of the valve spring seats and shims that came with my Manley dual springs from Futral. Does anyone know what the purpose is of the shim on the right? Why is it necessary?

the one on the right is if you need to shorten the spring height to meet the specifications.

They send me 16 shims, do I just shim them all? Also does the shim usually go beneath the seat?

you have to check the available spring height on the head to determine that. for instance, if the spring requires an installed height of 1.800" and you measure 1.830 from seat pocket on the head to the bottom of the retainer, then you'll need a .030" shim to make up the difference.

top/bottom doesn't matter.

Thanks for the help. I don't have any instructions or specs with the kit, so I guess I'll just have to wait until I speak to Futral.

you'll need to determine your own installed hieght dimensions like mrr23 said, unless Futral had your heads they're not gonna be much help
