$2,000 later and still tapping!
I have had the rockers, pushrods, lifters and valve springs replaced and i still have a noticable tapping. Before i replaced the lifters, you could hear it all the time. After lifters replaced, you only hear it after about 2000rpms and up. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know i will have to have it tore back down, just hoping someone would have some ideas. Thanks for any info. Sorry it is a 98 t/a

The motor is all stock besides what i've listed. I had it hooked up to a diagnostics machine, which i think was bs. The guy said he killed the cylinders and said it was a weak lifter. Well that wasn't it, so i don't think he even hooked it up. He got my 75 bucks though. Another mechanic i know said the diagnostic machine shouldn't be able to tell if it was a lifter anyway. It would just tell if their was an electrical problem. I am not a mechanic though so i don't know. So this is where i'm at. I'm sure I will just have to pay another $1,000 to have it tore down again.

I know they have a slight tap. I heard that when i got the car, but this is no slight tap. alot of people said it might be a flat lobe on the cam, but a mechanic at a GM dealership said the lifter would probably go before the cam would. So i'm guessing its a bearing or timing chain. I'm hoping its not a wrist pin.

Make sure your plugs are tight. Problem could be fixed but a plug backed out and now it's sorta loud.. also could be an exhaust leak or something when they put the head back on. I'd look for the cheap problems first, cuz it'd suck to tear the motor down to realize it was something stupid.
Good Luck,
