Default oil pumps failing??

I was just wondering how many of you have ever actually had your oil pump fail? I will prob. get a ls6 oil pump when i get my cam installed, but the guy doing it said he has ported/shimmed stock pumps for alot of people and they work fine. My car is a 2000 with 87k miles though, so it does have fairly high mileage.

I had mine fail at about 10k mi. I dont know why it worked great the night before, I start it up to go to work and no oil psi. ? I put a ported katech pump in it and its been fine ever sence. As far as the pump I see no reason it shouldnt work, it just doesnt.
