It's all a bunch of BS anyway. Piston slap is a non-issue and hardly GM-specific...

Piston slap can be annoying.

The loose clearances that cause cold piston slap also protect the cylinder walls from being scored during high stress/demand applications, particularly under boost.

It is common to see a 150k LS1 motor with piston slap to have like new cylinder bores with cross-hatch still very visible.

That's all you need to know about piston slap.

next please...

i've got a '00 Z28 with 60,000 miles that seems to have "piston slap" problem. is there anything you can do with it(not to steal your thread) or do you just live with it?

Good thing you cleared that up. Its good to know that for 2 years now that piston slap I hear every day even when fully warmed up is all in my head.

What kind of oil are you running? My car has always had piston slap. Last year I decided to switch oils (went from M1 10w30 to M1 0w40) and my piston slap got really bad. Then my oil consumption went to hell. Switched back to 10w30 and the car went back to the way it was before. If you're running a 0w or a 5w...try going up to a 10w and see if it helps out.

I've been using 10w the whole time, so i know that's not going to help. i think i'm just going to do a piston swap. i can't live with this piston slap. i think it will pay off in the end anyway.

I am using Castrol Syntec fully synthetic 5w-50 to try and stop some of the damn slap, and it is still quite audible.

Well, for what its worth, even though my motor is a slap motor, I really have never had an oil consumption issue at all, no matter what weight oil I have run through it, and I have tried many different brands and weights of oils. She's got 50,000 miles on her now, and I beat on her pretty hard. So besides the annoying *** piston slap, the motor has been pretty damn reliable.
