Default Max lift for heads

Im going to be utting A set of ported 5.3 heads on a 5.7 motor. They have the stock valve size. What is the highest lift cam i can use without having to cut the piston or messing with the heads?
Also, will the ported 5.3 heads make the engine lose power over a set of stock 5.7 heads?

1-Properly ported 4.8/5.3L heads will definately add power.
2- LIFTS have practically very little to do with PTV clearance. Durations and Valve Events are what you have to watch for.

Max lift along with duration (at a certain valve event time) is what you need to be concerned about. Look a the TRak, it's .640 on the intake.

Anyhow, porting a set of 5.3's is a good idea, as you will gain compression.
The key thing is getting a good set of 5.3's from a porter that knows his stuff.

It's probably less expensive to purchase a set of 5.3's (or even a set of 243s) outright from one of the vendors than to have someone port them for you.
