Default Quick question on ls1 cam swap

When you are getting ready to pull the cam out they say to spin it a few times before you take the retainer plate off. What do you do if the cam wont spin? Can you go ahead and take the retainer plate off and spin it after that??

If you have your rockers loose and your push rods out, it should spin freely. be sure you get your lifters up off the same and secured before you go pulling that cam out.

Better Yet, Go to Lowes and get 2 5/16" rods and cut them to about 24"s and push them in the holes and the lifters can not fall into the oil pan.
Engineer.

You may have to grind about a 1/16 off one side of the rods. I can send some pic if you need

It is possible that they still can fall from what i have heard...I dont know how, but I think that it just touches a portion of the lifter barely.

no that way def. works... i used it instead of paying 90 bucks for two aluminum rods....it works the exact same as the jrp tool..just get two 5/16 aluminum rods and stick them in there very slowy and rotate them...they will hold the lifters up just leave the push rods sitting on the lifters and youlll see the pushrods go up as you slide the rods in

Do you put the rods in before or after you rotate the cam?I would think after but I was reading an old post and one guy mentioned he put dowels in before he rotated it,that seems wrong. Thanks

Rotate> put dowels
Might need to still rotate as you put them in if one of them doesn't catch in the holder.
You'll know when that happens since the rod will not go all the way.
