Default quick lifter questions

Getting ready to install new cam and heads. Wondering if I should replace the lifters while I am in there. Car has 80,000 on it 6,000 of which it has had the current cam in.

If I do replace the lifters which kind do I get? My local oriellys has "Sealed Power" lifters for 10 each. Will these be good enough? Do I need the encased ones? Do new ones change any of the valvetrain geometry? I am swapping cam and heads this weekend so time is an issue.

I have searched and it is being retarded still....

I'm no expert and I don't even play one on TV, but my guess is with that mileage you should think about replacing them. Maybe just use a new set of stockers???

I'll read what the experts have to say about this.

Good luck on teh swap.

Get the Comp 850's they are a OEM replacement and a good lifter. I replaced mine for the first time when installing my forth cam at a little less than 80,000 miles.

They looked like they were new, the only thing is the internals and I figured after 80K they didn't owe me anything. I have always used Mobil 1 and interestingly enough when I took the heads off the cylinder walls still had the original cross hatching done at the factory. Frequently the cross hatching wears off and you are left with a real smooth cylinder wall.

one thing about the cross hatch is that with the lsx motors they have a good stroke/rod ratio and a fairly tall deck height. the ideal rod/stroke ratio is like 1.8:1 i think. a stock ls1 is 1.68:1 which is pretty dang good for a stock motor.

i would get some stock replacements off of ebay for like $95, thats what is going in mine. i have seen/played with a set and they look and work just fine.

Comp 850's get my vote.

My 98 still had the patterns in the cylinder walls after 100k. I pulled my heads and replaced the lifters with comp 850's
