Exclamation Will chaging bearing brand but keeping the same size affect clearances?

I had a local engine builder set my main bearing clearances about a month ago. They ordered Clevite 1-under race bearings and mixed them with the Federal Mogul standard bearing that were already in the block. The #2 main has one FM standard bearing and one Clevite 1-under bearing with .0018 clearance, the #3 main has both FM standard bearings with .002 clearance. ALL other berings are Clevite 77H 1-unders. All main clearances are between .0017 and .002. I heard that mixing brands is a bad idea from Kurt at W2W. I agree as the oil races are different between the two brands. My question is, would it be safe to find three Clevite standard main bearing halves to replace the FM ones? That way all the mains and all the rods will be Clevite 77H bearings. I am most worried about the #2 main as it has both FM and Clevite bearing halves. I am not sure if switching the brand but maintaining the size would affect the clearances enough to make it worthwhile to spend more money to have them checked again. I would like to at least replace the FM bearing half in the #2 main with a Clevite, and maybe perhaps replace both the FM bearings in the #3 main with Clevites as well. How much tolerance is there between bearing brands in the same bearing size?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

I know someone, perhaps an engine builder, has an answer.

I also agree with Kurt from W2W as I would have run all Clevites or all FM bearings.

You can get X's, STD's and 1's for FM152M for sure as we use them every day here!

You would still need to re-mock the mains up and re-check bearing clearance if you change that stuff too.

So changing the bearing brand but not the size may affect clearances?

It shouldnt matter. Mic the bearings from brand to brand and see if they are the same thickness. I have been following your buildup and I have to say that with an engine like that I would atleast have matching bearings.
