Default LS1 & LS6 questions.

I have a 2000 WS6 Trans am and I want to build up the LS1 a bit. Ive been reading "HOW TO BUILD HIGH-PERFORMANCE CHEVY LS1/LS6 V-8'S" and now im wondering how much better is the F.A.S.T. intake than the LS6 intake?
Im looking into doing a build smiler to the build HOT ROD did in their Jan 06 article. I plan to stop short of aftermarket heads, so I would wind up at stage 3 of their build. The build consisted of a Fast intake, 78mm Throttle body, 85mm mass air sensor, full length stainless 13/4 primary headers, high flow cats, full exhaust, comp XR289HR cam, pushrods, springs to match cam, retainers, new roller lifters,1.85 comp pro mag roller rockers,
raising the fuel psi by 5psi. with that they were at 468 hp @ 6100 rpm, and 434 ftlb at 5200.
supposedly no loss in torque any where in the band. so here are my questions what kind of mileage would I end up with. I have the 6 speed and right now im around 28mpg. I dont want to drop below 20 mpg on the highway. Im wondering if I built that setup and then put a set of LS6 heads on if I would see more power from the larger intake runners? Also does any one know what MPG a LS6 gets stock in 2001 or 2002? im also thinking of just doing the 02 LS 6 cam, push rods and heads with the larger intake set up as listed before. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jared

Go for it dude. Just stat bolting on parts and see what works.
Do the exhaust first, that won't change the mileage, then the cam, that will eat some gas, if you are still happy, change the intake TB and MAF, then it will really suck the fuel.

if you are changing the cam you would be stupid to wait and later do the intake and TB. The LS6/fast intake compliments a cam amazinly well. Probably around 20 rwhp. If anything I would do the cam last and intake after the exhaust. But it would be much easier to do the cam and intake at the same time.

Yea I will do every thing at once when i tear into it. First I need to find out how much better a FAST intake flows compared to an LS6 intake. And make cam choices. meanwhile Ive got plenty of car payments to make.

I read the ls1 muscle article, "5 steps to 530 horsepower", . . what you forgot is that that 468 hp ratin is at the flywheel, they jus dynoed the engine without it hooked up to the drivetrain, . . to the ground that set up would probably dyno around 380. . . . they also said that the first stock dyno, stock ls1 intake, stock exhaust manifolds, stock lid, maf and etc dynoed i think 367 hp, . . which again is at the flywheel, normally a 2000 ta ws6 like yours would dyno 295 to 305 . . what i would do is go for a lid, forget about a maf, ls6 intake, a large cam, something in the 230's with new springs and forget about the rockers, longtube headers, catted y a cutout and save up for a good set of heads, . . i don't think spendin 800 bux for the fast intake is really really worth it unless you find it for dirt cheap, . . sell your ls1 intake, . . at the end you'll probably want to work on suspension and other components

ls6, ls2, and fast intake manifold flow can be found in the FAQ in my sig.
