Default Cometic .040 head-gaskets on street-only, NON Daily Driver...

Experimenting again and looking for info/experience on .040 head gaskets on street cars, no real strip work. Changing cam in two weeks and thinking of head-gasket change...

-pistons showed approx. .007-.008 out of the hole... should put my quench at .032-.033

-current mods (other than new cam) in sig.... trying to push DCR up to around 8.63ish, currently 8.3 (every little bit counts in a H/C car )

Any info appreciated...

That quench is fine.
The only issue would be lots of stop and go traffic and carbon build up. A little more timing and a little less fuel (leaner stoich) would help.

Just check PTV clearance since you'll be loosing .05 both int/exh

I am considering the Cometics also, but concerned about proper prep so they don’t leak. Who has the 0.040 for stock bore in stock? I found .045

Thunder or TSP can order them for you... I am not sure anyone keeps them on the shelf...

sidestep can you post an overlay between your current cam and your F13? was there any big difference between the two in power and driveability?

Check with Tony Mamo @ AFR, he uses those and usually has some handy.

I will see if the dyno I go to still has the data...

I would say F13 for more street use, better low-end TQ... My current cam for more drag strip use... FYI, my current is easier to drive at low rpms and idles better...

Peak numbers: F13/Current Cam... 439/419 and 450/415

I'm ran .026 quench on my 6.0L block. .015 out of the hole with a .41 gasket. I know you need a little more with an aluminum block.

this time I'm going with a .040 cometic. you can 'custom' order them from cometic.com. they only take couple days to make, just give them a call. very easy to deal with. you can get many different thicknesses and almost any bore. MLS or copper.

I run .036 cometics on a stock short block, pistons are .008 or so out the hole. No
problems what so ever.Remember these blocks grow .010 to .012 when they warm up.

i'm running .045 w/35thous milled off the heads, 241s, and the F13 112+0 - no problems here.

Side Step, you got the 439/419 w/AFR 205s? those are some pretty decent numbers. I'd like to put down 405 cam only - 440 w/heads would be great.

Yupper.. I am not worried about P to V. I am concerned about having a quench of .033 (or less) on a street driven car... Here is the dyno graph for the F13 (112+4) and the AFR205s (62cc)

Ihave jumped on it a few times.... feels better but Im getting a slight amount of knock up top... I will get everything sorted out Thursday....

I sure hope so. I run a .040 gasket with a deck height of .007 and would hate to have the top of the piston crash into the head.
