Default Tach/SES problem.

Friend of mine has a 99 SS. Starts up the car, and it throw a SES light and the trach doesnt work at all. He hooks up autotap to it, and it does throw a code as to what is wrong. He clears the light with autotap, and when he starts it up, it comes right back up. Any ideas?

What code does it throw and just deleting the code doesn't make the problem go away. If the code shows something being jacked up and you just delete the code as soon as the problem arises the code will come back. Might want to try and fix the problem instead of just deleting the code everytime. Just my .02

It doesnt give a code on auto tap.....it just shows the SES light on the car...nothing else.

Put another scan tool on there & check it for a code. If not could be an internal PCM problem.

Take it to auto zone and they'll scan it for free and tell you the code.
