If your oil pressure was good before you will be fine with stock oil pump. Almost all the oil pump problems are installation, o ring, new engine builds with too large oil clearances and missing galley plugs.

it wouldn't hurt to get a ported oil pump if you have the money to do it. But if not and your oil pressure was fine before you should be ok. And as far as the timing chain goes......no you dont have to get new sprokets.....just get the LS2 timing chain and it will fit directly in place of the LS1 chain.

i plan on getting a new oil pump just because i have a 98 for piece of mind. but i was wondering if it's really necessary to get a ported pump or if a stock ls6 pump from my dealership would work just fine.

Default Pump

Not to hi jack this post but I might be able to help you out. I have one more ported LS oil pump here, GM part number 12586665. We (Dart) coated the pump housing and the gears, it is also ported. This is just like the Katech or anybody elses ported pump. This is our last one, this pump was done by APE, and we did the coatings here. I would sell this pump for $75.00 plus a few bucks for shipping if interested. You can PM me if interested. Thanks
