Exclamation Rod Bolt Hitting Oil Pan F-Body !!!!!!

Im building a LS2 418 for my TransAm and as i was putting the oil pan on i noticed that the ARP L19 rod bolt is hitting the f-body oil pan at the front of the engine were the little dent is ,This is to clear the factory rod bolt , and i have the oil pan gasket on also, What do i need to do? grind the bolt head or the oil pan, The only thing about grinding the pan is that i dont think it is thick anough with out cuttung threw the pan , I have Eagle 6.125 rods & 4.100 Eagle crank ,05 LS2 aluminum 4.030" ,how much clearance do i need between the bolt and pan.

You can weld the oil pan on the outside and grind into the weld. Build it up where it is thin. I would not grind the rod bolt though. Clearance needs to be .075 to .100.

is this whats every body with a stroker in a f-body doing ? ,I have a tig welder at work ,I didnt want to grind the bolt nether because it will throw off the balance job , But there is very little room between the pan and the frame .I guess ill grind till it clears or cuts thew and ill just build it up and hope it clears the frame

Sounds like a Lithium issue.

You could cut out a small rectangular section of the pan and weld a "cover" panel onto the outside of the pan. That should give you enough clearance and eliminate the possibility of the pan cracking from being too thin.

I think it is more a problem with the overly large Eagle rods. I know we went with compstars in my build because they are a good bit more compact than the Eagle/SCAT rods.

I had the exact same problem with my 408. We welded some extra material on and ground the extra clearance out.

Is this something that people building strokers should be aware of in general?? Just finished my 382 tonight, wondering if i need to pull the oil pan again ???

buddys 408 with grp aluminum rods hit and the motor wouldnt turn over.
id grind the bolt... but thats just me.
welding the pan is a good idea. grind away for days if you need to.
must be a good weld, or youll have oil seeping out of it. then youll have to take the pan off and clean it before welding.
oil and welding dont mix.
good luck.

People spend all that time and money carefully balancing and blueprinting engines for what? You wanna recommend grinding the bolt down and throwing the whole balance off?

Grind the pan!

Or just to add some humor, bolt it up and start the bitch up! It'll clear itself out!

thats good humor, lets get metal shavings in the motor, or crack the oil pan and drop 6 qts of oil everywhere.

id grind the bolt.... didnt say anyone else had to.
matter of preference.

I wouldn't grind the bolt because of strength issues. The small amount of weight removed from the bolt by grinding it is not enough to throw off the balance.
