Default Good combo?

Friend of mine just got a stock '98 3.15-geared A4 C5.

This is the combo we are considering for his car:

- TCI Streetfighter 3000 converter
- Lunati T1 cam (221/221, .558/.558, 112)
- Comp 918 springs, hardened pushrods
- Longtubes
- Halltech Stinger
- LS6 intake (maybe?)
- professional dynotune
- Nitto 18" drag radials

He wants a nice streetable combo that doesn't beat up the valvesprings, isn't too loud, drives nice but snappy. The cam choice also was because another friend (who would be the installer) has a lightly-used T1 for sale for $150.

It will be a weekend car, and will make a few trips to the track. He wants to go low/mid-12s at ~110mph in average weather (approx 2000' DA around here) and drive it to and from the track.

Any thoughts on this setup?

Who's car?

From experience, once he puts in a stall and feels the difference, it won't take long before he'll want a little bit more. So, I'd say do a higher stall and wait with the cam until he sees the difference from the converter. Do the bolt on stuff before going into the engine.

You saw/felt how my car idles and drove with a not-so-loose 3500 and a 224 112 cam and no tune.

Something in the 3500-3800 is still streetable with those gears...I mean, I could still get 20 with the 3500 and 3.73s. Plus, the vett would get up and pull like crazy and have a nice top end. Shouldn't have much of a problem going lower-mid 12s with a good converter and bolt ons.

Thanks Mike. My friend Shawn (he had the blue '94 Mustang that Cody bought) bought this car yesterday.

Actually he ordered the converter today, I guess he's kind of in a rush, LOL. He will be doing the converter first and getting some DRs and see if he can get into the 12s otherwise stock. Then do the headers and cam at the same time sometime later on. He didn't want anything looser than what was in my car, so we figured the 3k would be a good converter with his 3.15s.

LOL...he sounds like me...in a rush to buy parts and it's going to 9° next week, lol.

Do you know what the STR is on that TCI? The cam sounds like a decent choice for street manners an it will give a nice powerband (if I remember right, those are the old specs for the B1 cam)...after those mods I would expect ~350rwhp and low 12s for sure.

BTW, what's with the Mustang guys trading up to Corvettes all of a sudden?

That combo will acheive your goals. With a cam and headers, the LS6 intake should move from "maybe" to "definite."
