Default Oil Pump Q's

Ok, I am getting ready to have a cam installed and I am stuck on an LS6 oil pump... I am just curious which one I should get...

TSP has one for $119 and Katech has one for $155

Is Katech's worth the extra coin or would I be fine with the TSP version?

thanks in advance...

if it were my car, TSP.......there is not really any "blue printing" to be done.....just port the in and out.....

now somebody has one that is also tefflon coated which would be nice.....

QTP has a completely aftermarket oil pump. Not a ported/BP'd LS6. The bad thing is that you have to buy their cam cover too. http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/Cover/

Mini-Chris... how the hell are ya

I'm good......u?

actually, you should be able to use the QTP one with the stock cover as long as you don't also have a double roller chain....the reason I say this is because they state "A 2mm thicker gear rotor compared to the factory rotor" and the double roller chain moves a pump out more than that......in all truth, I think thats probubly the Melling pump which I ran fine with a double roller......

I just got off the phone with QTP, and they said that in order to use their oil pump you HAVE to use their timing cover...

Anyone out there ever actually experience otherwise?

And the original question still stands as well...

thanks

Where did you get that? And how did it do pressure wise vs. your stock pump?

My god.. "Oil pump will only work with our cover. Will not clear factory timing cover. Will not work with double roller timing chain. Modification is necessary on a C5 with a Fluid Damper that has AC underdrive pulley. "

That sucks!!! must have their cover, and you can't run a double chain. That sucks. I would think there would be an option for use with a double chain. That doesn't make sense.

ordered it direct from Melling......

it is a nice pump but because it is a sand casting (vs the stockers being lost wax), it has a lot of flashing and rough surfaces in the ports that needs a lot of clean up work to make it all it can be (ie: it is a really good pump for those who are going to port their own pumps anyways.....)......since it sounds like you want to just buy a good pump and slap it in, I would say go with a ported stocker (ie: like you were already looking at).....

thanks for the help...

and back to your first post... The TSP one will be fine?

What exactly is the difference between the ported LS6 pump and the blueprinted pump... if any?

yes...the TSP will be fine....

as far as I can think of, the ONLY thing you could really blueprint in these pumps is to surface the cover down to the min clearance between it and the rotor to cut down on bypass of oil.....not really worth the extra cost if you ask me.....

any pump that has been ported correctly will have the bypass plunger/spring checked to prevent them from sticking......

i just bought the mellings pump and slapped it on the car. i have great oil pressure.

i'm sure if i smoothed it out it would have looked better, and maybe slightly better flow, but for what i do with the car it will work perfectly fine as is.

I bought a stocker and ported and shimmed (.080) myself. Great pressure at idle but never too much at WOT either. Very happy.

I did my own. I would love to build a test jig for testing the relief valve pressure and shimming heights.
