Remove Heads for cam install?????

Default Remove Heads for cam install?????

Do I have to remove the heads to install a cam in my ls1?? I read i did not but a guy told me today that i would need to because nothing would keep the lifters from falling down.....so what is the truth??

Not true, u can used dowel rods to hold up the lifters
www.ls1howto.com should have everything u need to know

You don't have to remove the heads unless you want to port your heads, install new heads, or change your lifters. Otherwise you can just insert a couple of 22" long 5/16" diameter wooden dowels to hold them up. Make sure you spin the cam before you insert them to get the lifters up first. Read LS1howto.com and make sure you are comfortable with the procedure before you proceed.

Tell your buddy or who ever he's full of crap. I just did my cam last weekend and didn't remove the heads. The closeest you'll come to taking your heads off is removing the valve covers to do the springs and pushrods.
