Default 59cc heads vs. 64cc Patriot Heads

Hey everyone,

I'm just about to purchase a set of new heads, ls6 patriot heads stage 2 and was wondering the advantages of 59cc heads vs. 64cc heads. Just flow? Compression? They're the same price; I'm looking to buy from a member who never installed his set and is sending them to Gunnar for a quick check-up, and are 59cc.

I'm most likely going for a tsp torquer v2 cam, F13 or similar, less than .600 lift.

*edit* also, what cams will clear the 59cc head?

Thanks.

I'm going with 59cc's. More compression. Bigger boom. Thats it. Has nothing to do with flow.

How will the higher combustion effect engine wear? How can I adjust compression safely w/ gaskets? Sorry for all the extra questions, this is a big purchase for me

Just a heads up, I have an F13 and I've been told a 59 cc head may or may not clear. They definitely need to be clayed before install and there's no guarantee they will clear. (This is from Futral)

the 59cc PP heads are not milled so you shouldn't have a clearance problem. ther are some on this board running the f13 combo

I don't know. Higher cylinder pressure? Maybe a greater possibility of blowing a head gasket? I guess any time we increase the power output there is additional stress throughout.

...And you probably won't be able to run regular grade gasoline. But no one runs regular in these anyway, right?

TAF, how do they vary the compression ratio without milling the gasket surface?

The chambers are welded up then heat treated. they start out as Raw "Lq9" castings.

It's a big purchase for anyone. So don't be scared to ask questions. And there are no dumb question when learning something new.

I hate forgetting...the LQ9 is the 5.3 right? So the valve drop on them is still .030" lower than an LS1 head, but I don't know where the 64cc heads would be?? (Stock LS1s are 66.67 right?)

The LQ9 is the 6.0 head it has a vol. of 71.06. you are right about the LS1.The 5.3 is the LM4/LM7 it has a vol. of 61.15. The LS6 has a vol. of 64.45. These are the stock ComChmbr(cc) vol.

Thx, I always get the LQ9 qnd LM4 mixed up...why can't we just call them 5.3s and 6.0s

Yep, as someone jsut stated the 59cc heads come unmilled. I am running the G5X-2 with them and there are no clearance issues what so ever. Definately go with the 59cc.
