Default What to clean up heads with ?

Alright,

I just recently purchased some used heads and was wondering what to use to clean the heads up a little so I am able to check them out and see if everything is a-okay ? Would carb cleaner be okay ? Thanks for your time

aluminum or iron? the easiest way would be to take them to a machine shop that specializes in automotive stuff. the will know how strong a solution they can use to clean it and can also magnaflux it if it is iron, along with other standard machine shop measurements. big thing is you need to cc the intake port, the exhaust port, and the chamber to know what you are working with.

The heads are CNC'd ls6 heads from lingenfelter. I just want to clean up the heads to take a look at everything, not literally clean up the ports.

Yeah, use carb or brake cleaner, but replace the seals. Its a good idea to replace valve seals anyway.

what i meant was that they can clean them and inspect them for you. they have the tools and measuring equipment to find things that you cant with just the naked eye. they can find cracks, cc everything for you(do you know if these heads have been milled for higher compression or not?) and other things like that. i didn't mean them actually machining anything.

I don't think he is worried about the state of the heads or cracks. Just how to get the greas and grime off.
